Water Conservation

Using Water Wisely

In the manufacturing of foods and beverages, substantial amounts of water are used, both in processing and in the cleaning and sanitation of equipment. It is important understand water’s importance as a natural resource and the possible supply constraints in the future.

Understanding how efficiently water is used is at the heart of normal water conservation efforts, which include both reducing water usage and finding ways to return clean water to the ecosystem. Thorough audits of water usage in your plants can:

1. Identify and document all water systems;

2. Observe, measure and record operating conditions; and

3. Identify best practices for asset protection and improved efficiency.

With these audits, one can identify efficiency projects that can be evaluated for implementation. One key performance looks at the usage gallons per gallon of product manufactured.
